I have just sent Bill's response to Paul.
And if he doesn't get my original email I sent regarding the stock firmware, I will be sending it again. But this time, as you rightly advised, directly to him.

Sorry... Paul himself posted his email address here https://scrolltabletforum.sevo.uk/site/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1758&start=20 (entry 7 on the page) and it wasn't red penned, so I didn't realise there would be a problem ... my apologies.

I'm not entirely sure tbh. But everytime an email regarding the technical side of things is sent to the general support email address, Bill answers on occasions, and states he is unable to answer the question, and he will pass it onto Paul.
But I honestly don't know where he got the idea regarding Busybox.
Titanium Backup requires Busybody. The last time I checked Titanium Backup doesn't root your device.
Same goes for DirectoryBind(Bit like GL2SD).
And besides all of this, as was mentioned earlier. The Excel comes with an older version of Busybox included.
I have to admit, Bill's response did wind me up somewhat.

Unedited response from Paul at SO this morning:
We're not going to make this update publicly available (I've explained this to fonefixer already). It is too complicated a process to risk making it available to the masses. Apologies but we cannot risk this. Anyone with a *very* specific issue that requires the update will have it done here, by us at our expense.

The firmware update makes no difference to the lipsync issue as far as I am aware. I think people are simply speculating / guessing at this to be frank, it doesn't ring true with anything I've seen.
I've asked him to reconsider.

Edit: Further response from Paul:
I'm not going to make the release available, for the reasons I've identified.
Once it's in the wild, I won’t be able to control its distribution and can't and won't risk this.
Apologies, but I'm not going to be persuaded on this one.

I give up!

Regards

Paul makes a good point. There are people that can correctly use the firmware and those that can not. There is no way to control who has it and uses it. People that don't know what they are doing will flash it and possibly end up with a brick, that SO would have to replace/fix (as the FW would have been distributed by them).

That's true, but other companies have been making 'use at your own risk' firmware and other updates available since the beginning of time and trusting their customers to use them wisely... I wonder why this has to be different.

This lack of support and the lipsync issue, that's still unresolved, makes me question the wisdom of buying another product from SO, even if the prospect of the forthcoming 9.7" is very appealing.

Never mind, Windows 8 Consumer preview (Beta as was) is out tomorrow, that'll distract me from the Excel for a while!

I agree with Excel entirely...

SO and the tablet manufacturers in Taiwan should be a lot more forthcoming with information. My feeling is that SO's hands are tied. One only has to look at the response I received from another forum member with regard to their tablets origin as to what is actually going on.

I do agree with Paul that there may be issues with people incorrectly flashing devices, but if a disclaimer is put in place, under UK law SO could not be held liable under warranty conditions. If you need evidence of this have a look at the HTC website where there are discussions and information on bootloader unlocking. It is clearly stated that they weill give you the code required to unlock it, but if you stuff it up after your bootloader is unlocked it is entirely your problem and they will not be held liable, period.

There is no legal reason why SO could not put such a disclaimer in place. It seems to me that the suppliers in Taiwan have put very strict conditions in place in order for SO to distribute these tablets. As I said in another post, I have instructed one of Mobinil's senior buyers to contact the supply company we think it is - he has done so - after seeing the conditions on the contract for myself they can forget it.

Hey guys, here is the reply I got from Paul.
—---------------------------------------------------------
Hi Brian,

Thanks for your email. I accept Bill’s email could have been more professional and I will speak to him about it. Please accept my apologies for this. The gist, that app you’ve used is not covered by the warranty, unfortunately I agree with. I would be gratefully if you would pass this message back to the forum. We simply cannot support these types of applications on the device.

Apologies again for the terse email from Bill.

Regards,

Paul Evison Head of Brand Storage Options www.storageoptions.com

So basically then Busybox is still a Rooting tool. Lmao.
Needless to say I have replied.
Complete joke.
Do you know what, it is nice to chat on here, with people that have common sense.
And a damn-sight more helpful.
