@Excel was there anything you had to do to get your WD external HD to work or was it just plug and play? What format was it in?

Hi Wully... no, I didn't have to do anything, just plugged it in and it worked. It could be that the difference between your device and mine is thay my one has it's own power supply, so is not reliant on the Excel for power.

The drive is formatted as one 'big drive', I can't remember the exact term, so as to work around NTFS' 2tb restriction. It is also configured so that Windows XP can use the full storage amount.

I would be interested to know if they work with the excel.

Hi Scrollbob... just tried it with a Kingston 4gb Dongle (FAT 32) and it works fine.

It must be that 2.5" usb powered HDDs aren't getting enough juice from the excel.

I believe he means a 3G Enabled internet dongle rather than a USB Storage dongle. ;)
Though I'll add your Kingstone 4GB Stick to the list :D

The WD Passport drive draws 650mAh via USB, so a work around would be to inject power via a USB adaptor cable (Available freely on eBay!)

The SanDisk Cruzer Blade 4GB & 8GB also work well, as does a Class 10, Lexar 32GB SDHC card in the card slot (Best price Amazon UK)

Logitech Laser Scroll Wheel Mouse, model M-UV55a works well.
Left button is select and right button is back. The scroll wheel scrolls through the apps and clicking the wheel brings up the "Add, Manage Apps, Wallpaper" menu at the bottom of the screen.

I've just connected up the keyboard case I have that doesn't fit, together with an unpowered USB hub I had lying around and it all works fine together, like a proper mini laptop! :-)

I was going to upload a photo, but Tapatalk has an "Unknown error"!

I can connect to the Internet via my 3g phone when it's in WiFi hotspot mode, but not when it's tethered via USB.

Thats awesome! Good to see more things confirmed working, especially what memory cards are working, I've had my eye on that exact Lexar Class 10 card ;) I'll add all these to the list

This may be because the Excel doesn't have the right software/hardware to support tethered internet.

Has anyone had any luck in testing any gamepads? I've only got a Wireless Xbox 360 controller to test and a joystick, I'll test that tonight

I can report that my 16GB Class 10 (kingston) SD card - works fine in the Excel.

Mitre might be right that it could be running at class 6 speed - I really don't know on that part myself.

might be worth it for transfering large file like movies

@ Mitre I think this adapter just takes care of the physical connection between Ethernet and USB (there's probably some helpful electronics going on inside), but I think it relies on the operating system for a driver, which I don't think Android has natively.

I know that some tablets (Flytouch) come with an RJ45 socket, so it should be possible to create a connection.

I'd quite like to explore this further... do you think it's okay to continue the discussion here or should I create a new thread?
