SCROLL EXCEL REVIEW

Postby Mitre » December 5th, 2011, 11:47 pm

Having had the scroll Excel for 4 days now thought i would write a short review of it
the black with a white back is apealing and the menu/home buttons are flush with the screen giving a more asthetic feel, one usb socket for both pc conection and OTG accessories you can also charge from here
a single speaker on the back of the Excell is plenty loud enough and being on the back will amplify when laid flat on a table.
The device comes pre rooted so no messing around with trying to get root
the processor is very fast and getting web pages up is a joy including full flash sites. look at we choose the moon on your pc http://www.wechoosethemoon.org/ bbc iplayer is pre loaded and apps like IMDB trailers or Flixter look fantastic
the touchscreen is very responsive just a light touch will have you on your way
ive put lots of apps on it and there is still about 880 mb available for apps and you can move apps to sd card
video is very good i could not find a music player pre loaded but there are so many out there personal preference dictates, my favorite is Tunewiki
Battery life is good
i have downloaded a short 3d film and will let you know how it looks on a 42" plasma
For the £129 that SO are asking i think this is a superb tablet and the 7" form makes it a perfect size for an e-reader
I cant see anyone regreting buyng one of these beauties!
there was some pre installed apps in scroll apps in the drawer tray
there was no market access out of the box but a quick play around sorted that viewtopic.php?t=1708&p=12559#p12559
just installed Mobo player and tested the hdmi out no problem outputing to 42" plasma
very high quality picture direct to the tv from a mkv file
3D worked but only 2D-3D mode on the tv but this may have been the mkv file i will download a trusted3D file and test
when i get the chance but the HD was very good

The pre-installed mind control app in every Scroll Excel appears to be working as planned...

Thanks for this, I'm planning on returning my scroll 8" and getting this (Bought it for £89.99 and haven't opened it yet) So it'll only cost me £40 :D

Mitre

A quick question. How is the battery performance of the Exel?

Cheers

dont know from a full charge to complete rundown as i have been pluging in and out of the pc and this charges it up
but i know i have used it for at least 5 hours on day one without charge and think the battery level was at 40% when i put it down
will let you know on here it still has all the phone apks on it i loaded elixir today that has airplane mode the telephone bars re replaced by a plane on top of screen but the battery usage still shows 76% cell standby so i dont think that is working its got a bigger batery than the scroll 3400mAH

@Mitre

Is your market still working? and can you access free and paid apps? Also, is the market you have the new look one (not the green one as seen in Android 2.1) but the one based on honeycombe (looks a bit like Windows mobile style)

Cheers

I recieved 2 of the scroll Excel yesterday, you can upgrade the Marketplace app to the latest version I just googled for the APK and it installed fine, everything was working free and paid apps.

It appears to be rooted out of the box, and you are correct the phone.apk's are still active.

I have to admit I am a little dissapointed with it so far but it is early days so I am probably expect too much from the device.

I have found 1 game so far Stupid Zombies which plays fine but the sound is all distorted, and cant find out how you can remove your google account from the device once you have entered it into the market (I wanted to change it to another but it wouldnt let me)
