The APN settings for 3UK are on line 138 of that file:

Code: Select all
<apn carrier="3 UK" apn="three.co.uk" mmsc="http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc" mmsproxy="mms.three.co.uk" mmsport="8799" mcc="234" mnc="20" type="default,mms"/>

The odd thing is, the above only seem to be MMS settings for 3UK, not for browsing.

The Three GPRS/WAP connectivity settings are:

Access Point Name: three.co.uk
Username: guest
Password: guest
Authentication: Normal
Homepage: http://mobile.three.co.uk

They dont seem to be defined in the xml file.

I am using unlocked Huawei E220 with vodafone sim. However I can get as far as registering with Vodafone, have nice white bars on the strength indicator, have a selection of APN, I have tried to put my own APN data in, but so far no data connection. I am now assuming there is no 3G suport? There is nothing to tick in the menu under networks settings for 3G or is it automatic? Has anyone managed to get a 3G dongle to work?

Have a look in wireless & networks/mobile networks. You should have:

Data enabled: Ticked
Data Roaming: Ticked (you arent roaming but it wont do any harm)
Access point names: Set to the correct vodafone settings (payg or contract may be different)
Use only 2G Networks: Should be unticked
Network operators: choose "select automatically"

Other than that, please recheck your apn settings, one slight error and it wont connect.

I have my Voda E272 working, the only thing I changed was the /etc/3ginfo.txt file, everything else was as is.

I plug it in, and the 'bars' fill up and I get a 3G next to them. If I fling down the top of the screen where it says service it says 'Vodafone'. 20-30 seconds later the bars and 3G go green and I am online.

Ok Thanks

Works fine on my Laptop, so must be the APN. Only contract Vodafone APNs comes up automatically, and I have tried to amend it for pay as you go, but so far no luck. Good to know it will work. Thanks

Have a look at the bottom of http://www.fonefixer.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=66 to get the correct APN details.

Thanks, but still no joy. It is registering with vodafone, I have good white strength bars, I have edited the apn for pay as you go as per the information. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

With the dongle connected via usb, try opening your scrolls browers and navigate to http://192.168.1.1

Does a configuration page appear?

Also, if you would care to pm me thew IMEI of the dongle I will reply via pm with the unlock & flashing codes in case you need them.

Dave
Many thanks for your help. I will most likely stay with Orange, but just curious why a new unused Vodafone broadband/data pay as you go sim does not log on. Scroll says it is registered with Vodafone and it is shown as Vodafone on the drop down menu. But no green bars, or green 3G when I am in range by the window. (E220 flashing blue) The automatic APNs only come up as Talkmobile payg, Vodafone UK Contract Internet, Vodafone UK Contract Wap and Talkmobile MMS which has no selection button. It is odd that no Vodafone pay as you go APN is showing, and I have to add that APN manually as per the data you sent me. (pp.vodafone.co.uk etc). With an Orange sim the Orange APN for pay as you go comes up automatically.Green 3G and green bars no problem. There is no credit on the Vodafone sim yet, and I could do that on the PC or phone, but I thought I would be able to log on to the Vodafone website on the scroll to do that. On the Laptop it can connect and log onto the vodafone site for adding credit. May be I have to add credit to it before I can use it on the scroll. By the way the E220 is unlocked by me and was originally on 3.

Many thanks Derek
