As far as I can see there is very little difference between the two- I can only find 2 differences (3 if you count the price) and these are:

1. The cheap version comes with a flylead which is hard-wired directly from the keyboard and ends in full sized male USB

2. The cheap version retaining mechanism works in the reverse of the dear model - i.e. the top bracket is sprung loaded and the lower 2 are fixed when insering the Scroll.

Like you I can only use the keyboard with the OTG lead that came bundled with the scroll.
I am on the lookout for a 90 deg angle mini usb plug that I may fit in place of the existing plug.

Q. Does your top bracket obscure the camera when fitted centrally? (Mine does)

I have purchased the cheap one linked above, it does a pretty good job.

The USB lead attached to the keyboard is a bit too long and the USB does not have a natural home when the case is folded, so hangs out of the side.

Another thing, when you type [space] , the media volume goes down on the scroll

Happy with mine. I've placed double sided tape on the clip to stop the device sliding when clipped in. May replace with velcro. Other issue is with the spacebar. It's very close to the surrounding case and needs a finger print press rather than a side of thumb swipe.
