Status Bar Icon

Postby culagh » January 27th, 2012, 5:30 pm

Hi i wonder if anyone could tell me what this icon refers to as I can't seem to find it in the manual. It sits on the Satus bar and looks like it's to do with WiFi but we altready have one.

Hi,

Its the phone signal status - it does nothing as there is no phone hardware in the tablet - and before you ask, we are working on getting rid of it - see this thread viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1863

@Charlie - A word of caution to anyone who's thinking of getting rid of the phone signal strength meter... when I hook up my Huawei 3g USB dongle to the Excel, the meter springs into life... currently it's showing 4 bars of 3g 'ness.

If anyone's considering connecting a 3g USB dongle (at the moment only Huawei's seem to be compatible) to their Excel, they may do well not to remove any of the telephony software.

When I've got some credit (not for a while) on my PAYG dongle I'll report back on whether I can get properly online with it... it looks promising.

@Excel - Great point, thanks. (I forgot about that)

But I will still do it as I don't intentions to use a 3g dongle, but others might and will need this and possibly other bits, that i am going to take out.

@excel Connected my 3g dongle - its recognised but asks for an unlock code before it'll use it. It registers as a Three and the bars light up, but no connectivity. Do you know what unlock code is required?

You've got a connection to the Three network but, presumably, you need to authenticate access to your account. I haven't got any airtime on my 3g dongle, so can't confirm, but I would imagine it's your account username, password or a combination of the both (it may ask you for a 2nd level of authentication after you provide the 1st).

Don't forget, with your computer, this will all have been configured in the Three software... no such luxuries with Android!

If you pm me the imei of the dongle ill post the codes in this thread in case you need them. It may be asking for a flash code or ulock code. I can give you both straight off my pc. They are device specific though.
