One Wish For The Excel

Postby Charlie » January 24th, 2012, 11:18 am

Overall I am impressed with my Excel, however if I had one wish to make this tablet better, it would be to fix the lip-sync issues.

So post your wishes here and I will tally up the results in this post.

Things owners of an Excel want to be fixed the most:-

Lip-Sync = 2

Increase Battery Life = 1

(ie no unnecessary phone apps etc)

Official ICS = 1

$%^&&* flight delayed until 2pm! Anyway, I digress........

Battery life would be greatly improved by stopping / removing GSM functions on the Excel. As the device is wifi only there is no need for them to be running and using up copious amounts of battery power.

I once saw a google article where this issue had been raised for wifi only tablets and a lot of manufacturers had removed / disabled them. (from memory it was android 3 / 3.1) An official update to cure this issue would be much better than having to install non-standard recovery and rename files.

Sorry to hear your flight is delayed - I am sure you will enjoy the extra time at the bar ;)

Great points on the unnecessary phone apps and battery life.

My wish, official ICS support. I know there are some great attempts being made at the moment to port ICS to the excel but without official support we are taking risks, saying that I will almost vertainly give it a go but I would leave it a couple of months until I am happy that the procedure and kinks are all worked out :)

@forrrge - Yes an official ICS would be best, but form the looks of things even that version might not support flash, and that would not be good for me.

That's not going to happen, SO have already said so on these boards.

Go for the ICS update, it's a bit frightning I know, I've only had my tab a couple of weeks so I realise your concern, but I found the lip sync, no proper Skype and no on-line radio a pain, as the missus' £500 ipad does all that! Imagine her surprise that my £99 tab now does all of those things too!

What would be handy is an official image from SO of the current build so that people can revert back to the current image. I don't understand why SO can't do that. Having said that, so long as you don't mind a MOM09 flash screen, you can always revert back to that build as that is available from the manufacturer.
