I'll try mine tonight when I get in. Probably have a couple of beers first to pluck up my courage. I think I deleted the install-recovery.sh file. Is one available anywhere?

Can I ask why people are updating to 1.02 rather than 2.2 or waiting a few more days for a stable 2.2?

Is there some massive benefit I am missing?

Does Market work?
Is battery life better?
Is calibration better?

Is calibration better? = Some are messed up worse than before

Veng aks why I've updated to 1.02. I guess "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". When the 2.2 bird is capable of flight I'll be delighted to upgrade to 2.2.

More seriously I'm new to android and it's a good learning experience.

Stick clockwork back on it and recover to your old build mate

Re: Firmware v1.02 Available

I had a 1.01 firmware Scroll which had a few problems, and which I had rooted, clockworkmodded and build propped.

I wanted to get back on the "straight and narrow", and upgrade to latest official firmware, whilst waiting for better men than I to produce the ultimate Android 2.2 or 2.3 upgrade.

I realise this is not for everyone but in case anyone else is in the same place, this is what I did.

Note that I had already saved any data I needed to keep, what follows will remove all user installed apps and data.

Using terminal emulator, restored Gallery3D.apk, TelephonyProvider.apk, Mms.apk and Phone.apk

Restored original /system/build.prop

Restored /system/etc/install-recovery.sh (this will overwrite clockwork mod I believe)

Unrooted using z4root

Copied update.zip from storage options website onto root directory of /sdcard

Rebooted normally just to make sure the Scroll was still working!

Then followed the instructions on the storage options website (now in PDF btw!)

Note there is an error in step 6, volume down is the select key with the Android boot manager

All okay so far, screen calibration started.

No Market at this stage

Set up wifi, then enrolled my google account and accepted market ts and cs

Browsed to get.adobe.com/uk/reader

Eventually this brought up Market window with Adobe Acrobat Reader selected

Now if you go to finder and look for market it finds the market app

So now I have a "standard" 1.02 firmware system

No issues so far.  Everything works.  Touch screen, wifi (now reconnects automatically, didn't before), camera, market, video player (couldn't play mp4 files before), emails, touch keyboard, real keyboard, sdcard...

Settings shows the device is now called Scroll(SCR051624).  It also has touch screen calibration which only appeared as an app before (I think, maybe wrong)

Have now re-applied the "battery saver" changes using z4root and terminal emulator (renamed Phone.apk etc) but have only temp rooted to make the necessary changes.  I haven't applied clockwork mod or build prop yet, don't have a need to at the moment, probably will when Android 2.2 comes out of beta!

Overall happy with 1.02 upgrade.

I've also now upgraded to v1.02. Took a bit of effort as I didn't have the original recovery file so I removed the asserts from both update-script and updater-script and it installed ok.

All seems ok, touch screen, market etc all up and running. I can now even switch the tablet on without having it plugged in - I now have a true mobile device!

The odd part in my case was that even though i replaced all the relevant files my cwm is still working. I have heard of people having the original recovery installed after the update though.

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

if you used the updated - update - it would keep CWM in place - :)
