£29.99 now! I paid £100 for mine. It's not a bad phone, really slow though until you flash in the rom from modaco.

OK

I am getting on a bit , I like shiny kit , but am not a whiz kid at any of it so here are some questions before I part with £30 for something to lie in a drawer
1. A review of this says it doesnt have wi-fi tether or bluetooth tether ...what the heck is that? ( I know about wifi and blue tooth ) but whats tethering. Will it operate with home wi-fi broadband from my router ?
2.As its pay as you go on T mobile , can it be configured with say a Virgin Sim card or does that require tinkering
3. Its 2.1 version so can it be tweaked

These may appear to be Numpty based questions , thats intended because in the school of gizz- mos , I was at the back fiddling with a catapult, whilst the "frontseaters" were android monitors. Can some kind spark throw some light on it for me.

1. It has wi-fi and bluetooth. Wi-fi tethering means that you can allow other devices to connect to the internet via the phone. I'm not sure there is such a thing as bluetooth tethering. Yes, it will connect to your home wi-fi.

2. Virgin Mobile uses the merged T-mobile/Orange network so you might be lucky. Otherwise, it would need to be unlocked, either by T-mobile or at the local unlocking establishment.

3. I'm pretty sure you can't get 2.2 on it but it can be tweaked with a custom rom which makes it work much quicker and gets rid of most of the pink branding. See modaco.com

Bit more info here http://www.mobileburn.com/gallery.jsp?Id=8821

Must say I'm tempted and the resistive touch screen appears quite responsive. Note you have to buy a £10 top up with it, not much help if you are fitting your own T Mobile SIM. The sat-nav is a month trial and I wonder if Android Market really works ;)

Edit: Having now read this http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones ... 036/review

Gone off the idea!!

Well, I couldn't be bothered to read a 7 page review but having used one for 6 months, I know that the phone really isn't that bad. For £30 it is an absolute steal. It is really slow out of the box, but with a custom 2.1 ROM it runs a lot quicker. The market does work although some common apps are missing (for example, alogcat) for no apparent reason. For sat nav, use google navigation which is free. Apparently, 2.2 is also working but I don't know how complete it is. Battery life is poor but you just have to charge it every night.

Thanks insx for the info. I already have a WM 6.1 smartphone so will stick with that for now. It was Android that attracted me to the Pulse Mini as I am rather hooked on the OS having used the Scroll.

Just out of interest, would you be good enough to point me to the appropriate part of modaco.com for this custom 2.1 ROM

Thanks :)
