@ AndrewW -

Oops - That might be because I never posted the link. The link I had posted was for the GPS fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880 - you will need this if you have issues with GPS

Scroll down to the part where is says "Resolution" - (Don't worry about the info in the light blue boxes on that page)

Dont panic Mr Mannering.... here's what to do!

1) Make sure KIES is NOT running and hasnt been for the previous 30 seconds
2) Connect handset and swipe screen to unlock it. If you see "initializing" with some dots then "connected" after one or two mins youre ok. if not you have an app running in the background thats stopping it connecting. The trick is to make sure before you connect that the handset is on the home screen and you have minimal system apps running in the background. The service software I use kills everything and forces a reboot into download mode before an update - KIES does similar but there are some apps it cant kill.

Well charlie's code worked, but only once and FF's trick brought up a message on the screen saying there was no SD card installed but nothing more :?

Think I'm going to have a lie down now ;) :D

AndrewW - Also if you are using another launcher other than the stock one - use a app like Homeswitcher to easily switch back to stock launcher, before connecting to kies. Also make sure debugging mode = OFF on the phone.

Thanks again charlie. I am using the standard launcher, debugging is off and USB is set to Kies.

I think I'll worry about it when Froyo is on offer as don't really need Kies at the moment.

No response from Samsung btw!!!

My battery tweaks are getting better - 60% power left and 72 hours on - and used it 1/3 of that time :D

Hello

Must have dozed off in the old chemical inducement chair again , what are the battery tweaks that you have used Charlie ?......I seem to go down to 30 % after a days standby usage and checking emails occasionally. I leave Wi-Fi on at work and turn everything else off ( GPRS Bluetooth etc ).
In relation to Froyo , well what you dont have , you dont miss , unless youve had it and then you miss it !I am still blinded by the speed , the clarity of display of movies and live TV streaming , responsive screen and all apps running sweet, if froyo is an improvement on this , I may need to be restrained by white coated men......

Well I have rooted my Apollo, installed Root Explorer and had a look in the apps to see what I could delete to tidy the gadget up a bit. Nothing leaps out that would clear up vast amounts of memory so am open to suggestions, please, as to what I could eliminate ;)

I have deleted the indigenous Browser but the icon remains in the App list and refuses to be removed :?

I should point out that rooting your device can cause warranty issues, even if you unroot it before sending it in for repair. most of the time it isn't noticed but it can be picked up that its been done by our diagnostics.
