I've flashed it back to 2.1 for now! Apart from the inability to root it kept seizing up requiring a restart.

Out of interest, how many time can you keep "burning" that ROM? I remember in the old days when I used to work with EPROMs on processor boards, there was a limit to the number of times you could erase it and reload it. They were the devices with a window in the top of the chip that you exposed to ultra-violet light to erase the memory. We then graduated to EEPROMs!! Perhaps before your time

Before my time? Nooooo!

I dsid my apprenticeship at a company called Marconi Avionics where they did lots of MOD stuff. In those days EPROMS couldnt be flashed & erased many times before they were knackered.

The newer chips can be re-written thousands of times before they show up errors and even then if they have a dodgy section its ignored and re-written elsewhere on the chip.
