Does it only work through the app as an alternative browser?

Having downloaded this, I am still working out whether it works, if it is just a novelty , or actually useful once the learning curve has flattened out. I am still at pat the head whilst rubbing tummy stage..........why the developer made all these extra features is beyond me, the dialling circle is quite annoying at first.
