I found that the temp root function of Visionary works fine for getting root.

First time you will get a black screen for a while, but just wait a bit.

If it doesn't go, click home, run visionary again and click temp root. It should be quicker.

You know its ok when you see the visionary menu again.

Oh, and I am not attempting perm root just yet!

To check, download terminal emulator app. Launch it. Type "su" at the prompt on the blue screen.

I've been told the z4root app works on the scroll, when I'm home tonight I will take the plunge and report back. Wish me luck

z4root is good . Try just the temporary root first then if it works go for the permanent.

Getting root means you have root permissions on the device. Root can be considered like an Adminitrator account on windows except root can do alot more (an extreme example being you can delete an ENTIRE linux system while it is still running if you are the root user).

On android it is mostly used for removing pre-installed apps/making backups and things of that nature.

Normally when you root a phone/tablet running andrid an app called "Superuser" is installed for you. This prevents root programs running unless you give your permission.

Root is used when creating custom roms etc as it allows you to access the entire android system so getting root is normally the start to custom rom creation and in our case getting 2.2 up and running.
