perhaps a screening method of security whereby a member has to make a certain number of constructive and helpful posts (i.e not just posting short/unrelated/repeated answers) then they are allowed to post topics in the thread, otherwise they are removed by moderators?

several forums I'm a member of have employed this tactic, and asides from the very occasional topic posted by someone who hasn't read the rules, it works quite well.

i suggest this as I've got loads of crap to shift

Well phpbb has the facility to use a "minimum post count" to hide/show content (such as downloads/ thread posting) so it could be added

sounds good, some forums say around 35-50 posts before allowing members to post, they even have a member group for authorized traders
(with their own feedback and for sale topics)

Ive also seen forums that enforce an eBay feedback score system

that could work also, and gives an extra layer of protection to the buyer and seller...

I'll add this ASAP guys.... i'm feeling a lot better but i've developed a bad inner ear infection which means i'm currently about 80% deaf in both ears, with mild pain, constant ringing sound which is bloody annoying, and unbalanced when walking. All this from a frigging COLD!? It's totally knocked me for six. Have been told could takes weeks to clear 100%. Anyway, i'm still trying to do some stuff here and there, so i'll get this added asap.
