I am aware that there is another thread which talks about wifi connection with mobile phone. But thought tethering was more of an appropriate term. I've read that few have success with HTC desire. Will tethering work with most rooted or jail broken mobile?....

As long as your phone is a hotspot then the scroll will connect, I think people have had issues with phones acting as adhoc connections.
If you have a rooted android phone, get the Wifi Tether For Root users app, (not on the market but Google is your friend)
