Charging Problems

Postby veedubya » August 9th, 2012, 9:05 am

Something seems to have gone wrong with my charging cable :( . It seems as if the jack plug won't go into the tablet properly and won't charge. If I push the jack plug in really hard & hold it there, it will charge, but obviously, I can't stand there doing that for the time it would take to charge up  . For the moment, I'm using the USB connector to charge up, but that's not really practical for a permanent solution. I'm wondering if this is a common problem or if it's just me, and is there any solution please?

I have only heard one case which sounded the same as this and that was caused by the charging socket on the circuit board coming unsoldered. If this is the case then you would have to open up the tablet to effect a repair - but therein lies further risk.

I haven't heard of this type of fault occuring with the charger although I guess it's not impossible. If as I suspect. it is the charging point becoming detached from the tablet's internal circuit board, then the fault will probably get worse and reach a point where you can't make a connection at all.

Still at least you can still charge via usb even if it does take twice as long.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Many thanks for your reply. If it is caused by the charging socket having become detached, it should be covered by the guarantee as my tablet is only 5 months old. I'll try contacting the manufacturers to see if they will repair it free of charge.

Sounds like a good plan.

I sent a service request via their website and have just received a reply asking for my postal address. They are going to send me a new charger. I hope that solves the problem :)

Yes, I'll let you know if it works. Obviously, if the problem is the charging socket in my tablet, as opposed to the charging unit, it's not going to help, but that's what they offered first (cheapest option for them). Anyway, fingers crossed ;)

The new charger has arrived, but it still won't charge :(

I've sent another email to the manufacturer.

Oh dear, sounds like our original diagnosis of the charging socket becoming detached from the circuit board may well be right then.

Yes, sadly, that's what I thought. Hopefully it will be covered by the guarantee
