been trying to do a factory reset - want to clear a lot of c**p and tried to do usual - hold both + and power button but when andriod appears goes to unpack and then i get stuck with exclamation mark and adriond image - no menu

any ideas?

it is a stock with teh latest firmware from scroll -

Don't know much about the SE but are you able to carry out a reset through the system menu, perhaps as a function listed under security or privacy as this would be the alternative if the hardware buttons aren't allowing you into recovery.
Not knowing precisely what version of android you have on your SE I'm not sure if this information will be of use anyway. Failing that it sounds as if your firmware has got corrupted.

i have tried doing it within the operating sytem - but it does not seem to get to end of process

I'm afraid that your Scroll 8" Special Edition ARM710a CPU isn't suitable for some of the more drastic recovery attempts like Livesuite which is OK for the allwinner A10 CPU's unless you know where to get the right usb drivers and a suitable image ? Otherwise, until or unless someone else can come up with a solution I am afraid you seem to have a brick on your hands.

apart from unable to reset and unable to connect to PC it still works and i can load stuff on external SD - still plays movies, reads books and plays tunes and internet etc. Just cant reset - i have contacted Storage Options to see what they say -
