OK I’m Stupid but…

I cant’ do hardly anything with my new Scroll!
What I can do:
I can get online. I can send and receive emails. I can download apps.
What I can’t do:
Use the Sokpad external keyboard: when I plug it in nothing happens. Do I need to activate/install it in some way?

Connect to my PC: when I connect the usb cable, WinExplorer find four “removable disk drives”, asks me to put a disk in them, and searches unsuccessfully for device driver software for Android Éclair.

Read from a memory stick: I’ve downloaded a file explorer app, but it seems not to find the stick.

What am I doing wrong? Advice much appreciated!

Keyboard: plug in into the host USB

Network: un-rar this somewhere and when the device wiz looks for the driver browse to it.
(assumes Windows XP - for Win7/Vista, see this thread)

Memory Stick: needs to be formatted FAT or FAT32

You need to mount the "Removeable disk drives" on teh tablet itself when you plug it in a few new icons appear in its top bar. pull it down and select to turn on usb storeage (internal is the nand - dont bother using it, external is your sd card)
You probably wont find drivers for Android Eclair as it seems it sneeds hacked drivers and the few of us who have working ones are unsure where they came from (normally older android phone installs)
Dont worry about teh Android Eclair driver you wont need it unless you plan to use development tools on the Scroll.

The usb stick will be mounted under /scsi (?) o something equally stupid. of course the problem with this is you need a file explorer to look there! Get astro from the market :)

My keyboard didnt work either - I have returned mine...

Well hey, I’m getting there – thanks for your help guys.
The keyboard works when I put it in the host USB port [funny, I could have sworn I’d tried that!].
My PC has found the Scroll, and I’ve copied stuff to the “F: drive”. There’s still a G: and an H: drive that the PC invites me to put a disk in – what the **** are they?
I can look at photos, and listen to music. Cool.

Stuff I still can’t figure out how to do –

Open Office documents
Delete files
Delete apps I don’t want
Cut and copy and paste stuff
Twenty seven other things I can’t even remember what they are.

I really appreciate the help. Isn’t there an Android user guide anywhere that tells you this stuff? Or are we supposed to be born knowing it? thanks anyway!

To copy/paste/delete files use a file manager like Astro from the market.
to delete apps press menu > settings > Applications > Manage applications.

the scroll has 3 drives that are visible on windows, and on firmware 1.01 they will show up asking you to put disks in them, but on 9.04 they wont. you must pull down the bar at the top on android and select mount for each
one is "internal device storage (\nand)"
other is "SD card (\sdcard)"
last one is "USB host (\scsi)" < this one is only available to mount if you have a usb mass storage device plugged into the scrolls usb host port.

Download Android system info as it's a great app to have with a easy to use file browser!
Doh! I just realised why my PC was not reading the Internal memory on my Scroll! :D
