Hi.

I hope this is the correct place to post this.
Thanks to the Scroll Excel selling like there's no tomorrow, I will have to wait until after Christmas to get my hands on one :( Never mind.

Anyway, I was just wondering about the charger.
Could anyone tell me if the Excel will charge via the USB port, as well as the DC input?
I read a review somewhere, that said that the Excel will not charge via USB. I thought perhaps he had tried the wrong USB port, as I understand, t has two (Host etc.)
So I thought I would ask the experts. Or the people who have already got an Excel. Lucky sods :)
Thanks Gadget Show!

Hi
Funny one this the Excel only has one usb port for everything now it will charge via usb if its plugged into
My computer and it will charge from a wall socket using a 400mA usb style charger and usb lead
But it wont charge from the wall socket using the 1000mA plug style charger that i use to charge my old scroll
Short answer yes if you use the right charger
Ps you can buy the Excell from some shops too check out the add at top of page then folllow the link where to buy

Thanks for the heads-ups buddy.
You're right. The only thing I could put that down to is that the Excel has some kind of cut out, if it detects and input current higher than a certain value.
I just thought that seeing that the Excel will charge via USB & DC jack, that I could either knock up an emergency charger running off rechargeable batteries. Or buy one that recharges devices that have a mini USB connector.
But if the input current is a problem, then I would have to be careful not to have rechargeable batteries that have a large mah rating. Who knows.
All I need now is an Excel. Next month, cannot come soon-enough. I will be pre-ordering one as soon as the cash goes into my bank.

Thanks again matey.
A tad-early, but Merry Christmas.

I get my Excel in January as well, but a friend told me that the reason the scroll has a seperate charging port, is so that you can run accessories for longer without the risk of running out of battery power. Given that it only has one USB, that would be logical I suppose! It would be nice to cut down on chargers, when travelling around and not using accessories though!

Has anyone tried to charge using a standard iPhone wall plug with the standard 'USB to Mini USB' cable that is supplied with it plugged in?

I don't see why it shouldn't mate.
Seeing as it will trickle charge when plugged into a pc.
Can't wait to get one.

Yep it will charge from iphone charger Kindle charger and a cheap usb charger from poundland as long as the output is less than 1000mA at 5v

So a homemade usb charger with 3000mah batteries are out then :)
when i get my excel i may build or buy an emergency charger with lower output batteries. Weird though, that it refuses to charge from usb if the current mah output is higher. Devices normally only take what they need.
The excel is a strange one indeed mate.

Good to know that the iPhone charger will work if required, as it opens up opportunities for charging in a car. :-)
