admin wrote:@Detection - Mike at Storage Options has also told me we can upgrade to 2.2 via the miniSD card but won't give any details as it will invalidate the warranty. So unless they officially release an update, I wouldn't think they'll be releasing step by step instructions anytime soon unfortunately.

Who cares about the warranty lol

They should provide instructions with a disclaimer stating they have no support or warranty for anyone who does it.

We should keep on at them to release it to this forum exclusively so long as we claim to have discovered the workaround ourselves.

We already know we can update via the sd card... we just haven't compiled 2.2 for the tablet. They probably have not either as the oem of the processor has not released 2.2 drivers for the gpu aka you can have 2.2 but with no video or games... relax itit will take a whilewhile to get stuff done.

Seems strange that 2.1 drivers would not work for 2.2

Certain XP drivers still work for Windows 7, Vista drivers work for 7 etc

I know android is not windows, but is 2.2 really so different?

Im guessing it has a new kernel causing the incompatibility ?

I can't figure out why a software change should void a hardware warranty. Not like 2.2 will blow up the tablet or the like. What do they care if we upgrade? Most companies will just refuse to support the upgrade, not void the warranty. In fact, I do not believe it is legal to void a warranty for such a 'reason'.

The problem is if we upgrade to 2.2 our way we effectively stop their way to recover (Replacing the recovery image) So thy would have to do alot more to fix the tablets. its easier to just tell you to go away lol.

and yes 2.1 > 2.2 has a kernel change but it may be possible to try an get teh 2.1 kernel working with the 2.2 system as happened with the dell streak for a while but its way beyond my abilities.

We need some help from xda-developers.com - They are wizards with porting and there are currently teams of people working on bringing Froyo 2.2 to HTC Windows Mobile phones

If they can port it over to a completely different device designed for a completely different OS, I am sure it would be a breeze for them to make it work on a device already designed for Android

Problem with xda-developers.com, is you very rarely get any replies to your questions - so getting in touch with the people we would need is going to be difficult in itself

Got to agree on this point I have been a member on XDA for about 6 years now, having owned an original XDA PDA and unless your banging posts out on a specific thread you tend not to get things answered, which is a shame realty, because that site is the hackers Mecca
But we can ask, because if you don't you never know.

Maybe the most senior poster on there, from here, should start a thread, then the rest of us can add our thoughts.

Most companies dont mind people rooting/upgrading as it gets them sales because people can see what the decive can do even if its unsupported. An example of this is Dell having people in teh Streaks active dev channel lol. There were people AT dell using the custom firmware DJ_Steve made because it was better than the dell one.

It will be interesting to see how they offer this Firmware Update :D

Admin we can downgrade to 1.6 via teh SD card as well.. its not the upgrading thats the problem its creating the version of 2.2 that works lol

EDIT: I appear to haev read the last page before posting this but yayness lol
