This might sound a silly statement, but believe me, its not....
Are you sure its capacity is actually 8GB? I bought a 16GB one off fleabay that was a fake, turned out to be a 4GB one that had been altered.
If you fully format it, and remove any partitions it should show its true value.
If it is a good one and its formatted fully the scroll should see it when its inserted straight away. Look in the top bar when you put it in, it should say "Preparing TF card"

I always used the scrolls inbuilt function to format my sd cards.

Tried that but the scroll doesn't see it which is why I formatted on PC to check the card isn't bad. The first card I had cant be read on PC OR scroll, so I'm assuming that card is faulty.

@Fonefixer

I am assuming the card is genuine as I bought it from ebuyer new and factory sealed but I take your point - its a PNY 8GB.

When I go into the SD card/storage settings I am only allowed to mount/dismount the Nand memory which is the scroll's internals - I cant access the options for the SD card which is why I am assuming the scroll is not seeing the card.

Have you actually selected 'Format SD Card' option on the scroll when the sd card is in the scroll? if it is greyed out select 'unmount SD card' 1st

when i put a new sd card in the scroll - the scroll does not see it or except it - but when i use the format option there - it is then ok and i can mount the sd card and use it.

the only setting in there u can change are the ones for SD card - (the one u are putting into the scroll.) not nand

Format option is greyed out / unavailable as is Unmount SD card. I can't select them, that is the point.

Not THAT desperate for SD storage - can always give this unit to my mum as an e-reader. I doubt she'd get through 2GB of ebooks lol.

If the scroll is faulty then Ihave a problem as when first insterting the SD I "Lost" the SD card in the wrong side of the slot (i.e. not placed where it should be) so had to open up the unit, lft the screen and push the edge of the SD card with the blade of a knife until it came free from between the "slot" and top of the PCB. Again this wasn't me being violent, the card just went in the wrong place. I was very gentle to avoid breaking screen and or connectors but unfortunately the "edge" where the plastic of the back goes round the ports has taken a little stick. Its not broken but has been bent out of shape, and back in again.

If I am stuck I have a friend that can look at it lol.

Funny thing is when I did the initial install after retreiving the card (1st card) it installed fine - formatted in the Scroll usuing the above Format options and then as I say vanished...... Not being able to see/format the SD on PC led me to beleive that the card is/was goosed as suggested above. So I bought a second card which initially was not seen in the scroll.... but then formatted successfully in the PC.

So far it is 1 Buggered SD and 1 Possibly buggered Scroll.... although I cant understand why the first card worked fine after I removed it from where it had become jammed, installed and was formatted and then Vanished after 10 mins but never worked on the PC. and yet the Second card, whilst working fine on the PC does not seem to work in the scroll.

Can I actually connect my USB card reader to the scroll and try to format the card that way ?

This is the first device I've had with a microSD slot and also managed to put the card in the wrong way :)

Fortunately it pulled out reasonably easily although it wasn't seen by the Scroll when I put it in the right way round.

The PC didn't see it first time I inserted it into my reader either but it did the second time. It showed as an 8Gb Fat32 so I retried it in the Scroll and it recognised it correctly.

No idea why it didn't see it first time round though.

Warpedflash is right... return it as faulty.

My gut feeling is that it should not be able to be inserted incorrectly. Most decent-standard holders wont allow incorrect insertion. I have just tried to put mine in the wrong way and couldnt even get it in 2-3mm without being stopped.
A final thought... I just looked at one of my micro-sd cards, theres a small lug on the right-hand side, your card has one of these i presume?
