Been watching from the wings for a while...

Hey all,

Have been reading posts on the forum for a while but haven't had a chance to signup and say hi.

Have had the Scroll for a little under a month now and thoroughly pleased with it. Still got a little more customisation to do but until a viable 2.2 build is cooked I think I can survive with 2.1!

My background is as a computer engineer/programmer, with experience in Java, C/C++, HTML/CSS/XML/DHTML/PHP/PERL/Flash/JavaScript etc, and several other languages, both mainstream and proprietary (and a few that aren't really used anymore!) Hopefully can offer my experience and knowledge to help everyone get a little more out of their tablets!

Also had several years experience in Linux, both as a supplier and as a user, I think I started back on Redhat 5/6 (late 90's some time I think) so might be able to help with that "linux on the scroll" post I saw a little while ago, would be very useful to have the option of installing Linux as well!

Also happy to donate to the "Buy a tablet for DJ_Steve for 2.2" fund, And offer any help I can, even if it's just debugging, alpha/beta testing and code checking!

Stu - great forum, I'm suprised that Storage Options haven't bothered having a link to the site - surely we're indirectly helping them by bouncing ideas/findings like this?

Hope everyone's well.

David (Kommander)

Just a note, I requested a mention to Storage Options to direct purchasers and "considerers" to this great forum, and include a link in their "support" page. I have not received any response from them. I requested that although they probably could not recommend this as an official site, the fact that it is diverting enormous amounts of questions from them should be recognised. As we all know, the "manual" is joke, and I have seen bigger volumes on HOW TO SIT DOWN !!!
regards to you,
PS do you know if Jolicloud will run on Scroll, I love this version of linux !

Thanks guys, I'll pop onto the IRC channel at some point and say hi in person!

As for the Jolicloud question, currently they only support x86 hardware (intel/AMD processors basically) so ARM processors are out of the question. However there is a version of Ubuntu for ARM as well as a few other distros (http://www.arm.com/community/software-e ... /linux.php). There are some rumours about ARM development, but as of version 1.1 - it doesn't appear to be currently supported either officially or unofficially.

I plan to take a look into external booting from USB/SD card (there must be a debug facility for it somewhere) just to see what will run on the tablet without having to backup/restore every time. Hopefully the advent of the successful disassembly of the scroll will offer up some interesting information about the motherboard used etc.
