Had a Scroll for a couple of weeks now. Very interested in upgrading and improving mine.

Busy trawling the boards for some Ideas and have a couple of questions

1.) Is an upgrade to android 2.2 available yet (there appear to be conflicting opinions on this)

2.) With the hacks here what are the chances of me Bricking my Scroll. (My wife would kill me if I asked for a new one  )

3.) If the Kernel is linux based what are the chances of installing A linux os such as UBUNTU?? (I have the ideas just not the knowledge to implement them)

Wow thanks for the quick reply :)

I'm having an odd problem with the market. I formatted my /nand and managed to delete Market . I got an older version of market running and it seems to self update to a newer version but then disappears when I reset/power down. while it's there it runs fine and runs I can use the full market although a lot of the games won't display sprites properly.

There are know issues with the market place in firmware version 1.01 (just not a full fix)

Search on the forum for 'market issues' there are many threads - unfortunately it is an on going problem

market is crippled beyond belief as it was a hack job already.
hopefully a custom 2.2 will sort this out.

you can brick if you delete teh wrong files but as long as you dont break teh recovery partition you should always be able to fix it. if you install clockworkMod then you will basically be sorted though anything.

Installing ubuntu could be done but will requite alot of work

Re: Ubuntu / Debian

I have an Arm compiled mini distro that's packaged and ready to choc 'n' roll... It's essentially a live distro compiled for ARMV5+. Once I've got the bootloader figured out properly it should be usable (although the Xserver might be an issue).

For testing it will have to be booted from SD.
Watch this space...
