I'm called sandgrownun cos I was born and bred in Blackpool.
I bought a Scroll Tablet on Monday morning from Maplins. It froze after a few minutes. Took it back Tuesday, Maplins replaced it no hassle. I have sussed out the ebook reader and the video player already and I think that I am going to like this device. Can anyone tell me if the Scroll has to be switched on whilst the batty is being charged?

No the scroll will charge while it is on or off, makes no difference except will probably charge slightly faster turned off as its not having to power anything.

it'll automatically turn on when the charger is connected, turn wi-fi off and turn the screen off (short button press) thats how i do it, and its fully charged for the next time i want to use it

Yea it does turn on once you connect the charger, but you can turn it off again with it still plugged in
