Battery Charging

Postby samtheeagle » January 25th, 2011, 9:00 am

When I got my scroll I was carful go give it a really good first charge, and then a couple of cycles of running the battery down and fully recharging to help condition it. The problem I had was that even after 20+ hours of charging I could never get more than about 80% in the battery :( This was using the supplied mains supply, and it must be working as it charged it to that extent...

What I have discovered is that I can only get the Scroll to charge to 100% if the device is turned on whilst charging. For whatever odd reason I cannot get it to fully charge if I shut it down. There go my efforts to treat the battery nice from new

Just me or have others found this?

I thought that with the battery type that is in the scroll, it was not good to run it nearly flat. Thought the battery had a bad memory. (or i do - lol) I can get it to charge up to 100% with it switched off or on, I have not let the battery go down below 20% before charging.

Lithium Poly batteries shouldn't suffer from memory effects so no need to let them run-flat, infact it's better for them to remain above 3v per cell.

Cool, well I never let it get really low... Just start popping up the warning message at 10%. But I've found the reporting of the battery state to be very questionable. It can say 10%, I'll put it to sleep, then wake it again and it'll say 20%.

Good good! I see the new official firmware claims to resolve that problem... I can live with it me thinks :) Roll on a FroYo build!
