Access shared folders on your network

I found a really neat way of getting files onto your scroll and also access videos and music direct from a shared drive on your network.

ES File Explorer and File Expert (free from the marketplace) both support the accessing of shared folders on a network. All you need to do is set up a new network share within these applications, specifying the IP address and share of the folder you want to access. From that point onwards all you have to do is click on the share on your scroll and it will show you all the files within that share. You can then click on the media file you want to access and it will stream it into a media application on your scroll direct from the share. It avoids having to have all your media files on the Scroll itself.

I did suggest ES Explorer windows sharing in another post a while back, but found that Wifi streaming is not always the best way.

I think I'd rather have a network connected hard disk and plug that into the Host USB port on the Scroll.

It's a nice app for accessing files on your network, videos stream fine for me over wifi... but pretty a clunky user interface for photos / music.

Can you use mount -t cifs //blah/blah /blah on the scroll?

I've found it works fine with the computers name, in my case \\steves

And for general streaming purposes, check out Tversity http://tversity.com/ and ORB http://orb.com/
