@travelusa

I'm not sure I've understood you. Did you install a ClockworkMod recovery partition, and are you saying you can't get into recovery by pressing the power on button while holding down the volume+ button (and continuing to hold the volume + for a few seconds after powering up)?

If that's the case after just installing an app update, it sounds like an unlucky hardware failure.

Can you get any response from ADB over a connection from your PC?

I've not seen it mentioned elsewhere:

power: boots in in normal mode (boot + system) (adb enabled)
power + volume up/down: boots into recovery mode (adb enabled)
power + menu: boots into bootloader (fastboot) mode (fastboot enabled)
power + home: boots into usbboot (fwdn) mode (usbboot enabled)

If you are in bootloader, or usbboot mode, you will just see the scroll/storage options splash screen(no skateboards on the scroll).
Presumably, you will also see this in normal mode if you have a corrupt system.
Presumably, you will also see this in normal mode if you have a corrupt boot.
Presumably, you will also see this in recovery mode if you have a corrupt recovery.
Presumably, you will not see this in any mode if you have a corrupt bootloader.

One way to detect what mode you are in is to plug in the usb cable:
normal mode uses vid:18d1 pid:deed, adb should work.
recovery mode uses vid:18d1 pid:deed, adb should work.
bootloader mode uses vid:18d1 pid:d00d, fastboot should work.
usbboot mode uses vid:140e pid:b071, fwdn should work.

In bootloader mode, you should be able to fix your system using fastboot.

(at least this seems to be the case for the capacitive model)

I'm not sure which post you're responding to, or what you mean by "What mode of power up?" Also, I'm not sure which Scroll you have. I assume if you've tried loading CM7 you have a resistive scroll, originally running Android 2.1.

If you tried bdb's button combinations, on my Scroll you'd get a completely black screen if you tried Power on + Home buttons at the same time. The machine is trying to boot via the USB port and you need special software running on your PC (called FWDN) to write data to your Scroll. To get out of that mode, the only way I know is to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds (say 10 to make sure since you don't see any screen response). You should then be able to power up as normal. If you still get a blank screen, then I think either your Scroll is dead or you need to charge your battery.

@bdb

On my v1.02s 2.1 resistive Scroll, there's no Fastboot option. Power on + Menu just gives a normal boot.

Yes it is a early scroll tablet 7"
i had aready updated to 1.02.
I then had a go at the 2.3 upgrade.
it worked ok set it ok was just installing some apps.
then rebooted just got the scroll screen
tried all the options given.
went download from there .
the usb detects it but now I just get the black screen.
it does not show on my pc list of apps attached.
so I think either I have bricked it or a hardware fault.
will take back to where I got it make out it packed up using it

fingers crossed you get a nice new shiny tablet and all else goes fine. remember to send the program developer an email about the program as it could also be at fault (just a suggestion). happy flashing on new machine m8.
