Am I right in saying that if I do get hold of the 1.02s recovery partition, as long as I can flash it over, I will be able to get the recovery part working again?

I'd prefer to do that instead of bringing it back to Maplin and claiming software problems. The Scroll is all set up with email etc now.

I think youll need to talk to SO about that, the 1.02s version doesnt seem to have the same recovery as the old 1.02

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

I've just had my 1.02s replaced by Maplin but unfortunately they only had 1.02s's - the good news is that I can now get into recovery mode as follows:-

1. Hold vol up and power
2. release power when the screen brightens slightly
3. continue to hold vol up and 'welcome' is displayed.
4. release vol up when triangle with exclamation mark is displayed.
5. press the home key and voila the menu list is displayed.

The menu looks like this:-

Android system recovery <2e>

Android system recovery utility

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

I'm curious to know if that's what the earlier (0.94, 1.01, 1.02) version look like?

I have the image files if anyone needs them - built as per evilbobbins instructions previously - tried to upload them but had an error saying that the maximum allowed size is 256K

I'm a bit wary of using CWM until I find out what the problem was.

my 0.94 version looked the same as that - before I put CWM on it.

I decided to bite the bullet and try the CWM again and I can now confirm that that is the problem. After I flashed CWM the recovery screen no longer came up but I was able to successfully restore my virgin recovery partition and now have a recovery menu again!
Is the CWM source straightforward to hack - I'm an ex C Programmer (10 years+ experience) and info on getting this working would be useful?

Regards
Bob

Excellent! Now we just need to get a version of CWM running.
